Do you qualify?
You're considered a school leaver if you complete year 12 the year prior to beginning your university studies.
As a school leaver, to be eligible to study a bachelor degree at Curtin you normally need to have done the following:
- Graduated from high school
- Obtained a TER (ATAR) score above the cut-off score for the course you wish to study
- Received a scaled mark of at least 50 in:
- English (stage 2 or 3); or
- TEE English Literature; or
- English as an Additional Language/Dialect (EALD) (stage 2 or 3)
In addition, many of our courses have limited places and so selection will be based on competition with other applicants. Some of our courses also have prerequisites, which are subjects you need to have passed in your year 12 exams.
Overseas and interstate applicants
Overseas and interstate applicants need to have completed secondary education that is deemed equivalent to the admission standards outlined above. Please contact the University Admission Centre on +61 8 9266 7805 or email admissions@curtin.edu.au if you would like your interstate or overseas qualifications to be assessed prior to submitting your application to Curtin or TISC.
What if I don't qualify?
Don't worry - there are many ways to gain entry to Curtin even if you haven't met the entry requirements - see Ways to gain entry.
You're considered a non school leaver if you didn't complete year 12 the year prior to beginning your university studies.
As a non school leaver, to be eligible to study a bachelor degree at Curtin you normally need to have one of the following:
- Graduated from high school (and achieved WACE) [+ more]
- Special Tertiary Admissions Test (STAT)
- Alternative Test for Adult Admission (prior to STAT)
- Mature age Tertiary Entrance Examination (TEE)
- General Certification of Education ('O' and 'A' levels)
- TAFE or Australian Qualifications Framework (AQF) qualifications
- Current Division 1 General or Mental Health Nursing Registration with a State Nursing Board in Australia
- Successful completion of the first year of a bachelor degree course at another Australian university
- Successful completion of two Curtin full degree level units via extension study and English competence
- Successful completion of two degree level units via Open Universities Australia (OUA) and English competence
- Successful completion of two degree level units at an Australian university and English competence.

English language requirement
Regardless of what you choose to study, Curtin requires you to demonstrate competency in English. You will normally need one of the following:
- a final score of at least 50% in TEE English or English Literature
- a mark of at least 145 in the STAT Written English test taken from 1996 onwards (or a mark of 150 prior to 1996)
- an appropriate level of pass in the International English Language Testing System (IELTS). Valid for two years only. You must have sat the academic test to qualify for university entry.
