Special consideration entry
We understand that sometimes events outside of your control can prevent you from meeting Curtin's admission requirements. In light of this, we will assess individual applications from students who believe they may be eligible for special consideration for entry to uni.
Special consideration will be given to students affected by:
- Medical condition and/or disability;
- Accidental injury;
- Caring for ill or injured family members;
- Financial hardship;
- Family bereavement; or
- Incorrect advice provided in relation to University entry.
You may also be eligible if you fall into one of the following equity groups, as defined by the Department of Education Science and Technology (DEST):
- Low socio-economic background;
- People from rural and isolated backgrounds;
- People with disabilities;
- People from non-English speaking backgrounds;
- Indigenous Australians; or
- Women in non-traditional areas and postgraduate study.
Applying for special consideration
Before applying, you must read the Guidelines for Special Consideration Entry [.pdf - 118kB] or contact the University Admission Centre on +61 8 9266 7805 and a copy will be mailed to you.

How your application is assessed
Each request is considered on its own merits, however the following guidelines give an indication of some of the issues that Curtin takes into consideration:
-
Has your request already received consideration elsewhere? For example, if you have already been given special consideration by the Curriculum Council, Curtin will not generally give extra consideration.
-
What were the circumstances surrounding your request for special consideration? For example, the degree to which the circumstances affected your preparation for university entry.
-
How competitive is the course? Equity requires that Curtin consider not only your rights, but the rights of the other applicants, one of whom may be denied entry to the course if the consideration is granted.
-
Will you struggle at tertiary level? Curtin must take into consideration your academic level.
