Cut-off scores and prerequisites
Cut-off Scores
TER cut-off scores vary from course to course. To find out the cut-off score for a particular Curtin course, see the Course Overview.
TER scores explained
There are usually three TER scores that are published by Curtin each year.
The eligibility TER is an indicator of the minimum required before you would be considered for entry to a course. While this is a required minimum, the actual entry point may be higher.
The cut-off TER the lowest TER score achieved by a Year 12 applicant who was admitted into a course in an admission year. This is driven by demand for a course and should not be considered as an indication of ability required.
The mean TER is the average mark students attained in the previous admission year. Generally speaking, if you aim for the mean you are likely to be successful in your application year.
Prerequisites
Many courses at Curtin require a knowledge of certain subjects (that is, achieved a scaled mark of at least 50%) and these entry requirements for courses will vary considerably. The Course Overview provides specific information, including prerequisites and preferred subjects, for all courses offered at Curtin.
Prerequisite information can also be obtained from TISC. Visit www.tisc.edu.au.
English Competence
No matter what course you choose to study at Curtin, you need to have demonstrated you can communicate competently in English. For Western Australian school leavers, this means a scaled mark of at least 50% in English, TEE English, English Literature, English as an Additional Language or Dialect Course of Study. Refer to the list of approved English qualifications [.pdf 62Kb] for all other qualifications that will also satisfy Curtin's English requirement.
