Studying overseas
Studying overseas is a great option for students with an adventurous spirit and an eagerness to learn, live and have fun. Overseas study programs are available to all students and give you the chance to travel while you study and add a unique experience to your social, personal and career development.
There are two different programs available to students who wish to study overseas: Student Exchange and Study Abroad.
Student Exchange program
Under a Student Exchange program, you study at a Curtin partner institution for one or two semesters. You remain enrolled at Curtin and utilise HECS-HELP, or up-front fees. You must pre-arrange for your overseas studies to be credited towards your Curtin degree. Curtin has formal exchange agreements with 90 universities across more than 20 countries.
Study Abroad program
Under a Study Abroad program, you can attend universities with which Curtin doesn't have formal exchange agreements in place. To apply for a Study Abroad program, you're required to:
- Negotiate directly with the proposed destination university or college;
- Apply for leave of absence from Curtin for duration of your proposed study abroad;
- Negotiate with your Curtin department/school for your offshore studies to be recorded on your Curtin record as recognition of prior learning (exemptions); and
- Pay fees to the university you attend abroad - this amount varies between universities and courses.
