Studying at Curtin

Curtin offers a welcoming and inspiring environment no matter who you are or what you choose to study. The surroundings at the Bentley campus are defined by landscaped gardens and contemporary architecture that reflects Curtin's cultural diversity and environmental awareness. Take a look around all of Curtin's campuses here.

What's uni like?

Listen to our podcast where a year 12 student, Ryan, and a first year Commerce student from Curtin Business School, Jess, talk about what uni is actually like. Find out all the answers to the questions you haven't been game enough to ask.

The study load

If you choose to study full-time, you will probably study four units per semester. A typical unit represents about 10 hours of overall work time per week (including lectures, tutorials, homework etc), so a full-time student can expect up to 40 hours of work per week. If your lifestyle doesn't allow for that much study, you can choose to study part-time, doing one or two units per semester. To achieve the results you want, you will need to dedicate a fair bit of time to your study, but you will still be left with plenty of time to socialise, relax or get involved with some of the extra-curricular activities on campus.

Out of the classroom

Remember - studying at Curtin is about more than just gaining an education - it's about being a part of a vibrant community where the emphasis is not only on academic pursuits, but also on having a great time. The Curtin Student Guild is the centre of most of the University's social and recreational events. Several annual events including the famous Beach Bash, Oktoberfest and Guild Ball are all organised by the Guild. Or for those of you who prefer some non-Tavern-centric activities, you can get involved with one of the several sports supported by the Guild or the community-minded Curtin Volunteers! Each faculty has its own social groups too, which are a great way to network and socialise with likeminded people.
