TAFE or other AQF qualifications

Graduating from TAFE or another Australian Qualification Framework (AQF) provider can qualify you for entry to Curtin, so many students who didn’t successfully complete year 12 use it as a stepping stone to university.

About the qualifications

AQF qualifications include certificates, diplomas and advanced diplomas such as those offered through TAFE, Curtin College and other training institutions. If you have received one of the following qualifications from an AQF-recognised institution you meet Curtin’s minimum academic entry requirements.

  • Advanced diploma
An advanced diploma qualifies you for entry to Curtin and satisfies our English requirement. This qualification will make your university application competitive for many courses and you may be eligible for credit toward your university study.
  • Diploma
A diploma qualifies you for entry to Curtin and satisfies our English requirement. You may also be eligible for credit toward your university study.
  • Certificate IV
The certificate IV is the minimum requirement for university entry, but in many cases a diploma or higher is required. You must also satisfy our English requirement outlined below.

English language competence

If you have received a diploma or advanced diploma, you have automatically satisfied our English requirement. If you have received only a certificate IV, completing certain TAFE communication units or the STAT Written English test are ways of showing competence in English, but there are other ways – refer to the list of approved English qualifications [.pdf – 93 kB].

Subject prerequisites

For some courses, you need to have specific knowledge of certain subjects to gain entry. Find out if your studies make you eligible for the course you’re interested in by finding your intended course or sending us an enquiry.

Credit for your study

TAFE or other AQF graduates who have received a diploma or advanced diploma related to their chosen university course may be eligible for recognition of prior learning.
